The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a definite escape threat while under house arrest.

The ex-president was sentenced of plotting a military coup in September and sentenced more than a 27-year term in jail, but he continued under home detention pending court reviews.

Top Judicial Official Alexandre de Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a safety action after recent developments were revealed.

This included attempting to break his tracking device and a summons to a public vigil that could enable a potential flight.

Judicial Records Show Flight Fears

In a paperwork permitting the arrest, Justice Moraes said intelligence from the unit overseeing Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the ex-president's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to secure accomplishment in his flight.
