Edmed Secures Wallabies Playmaker Spot Against England while Gordon's Return Delayed

Edmed is set to again steer the Wallabies from the playmaker role when they face England, while Gordon's much-anticipated return to test rugby is on hold.

Gordon, who previously played for the Wallabies at the last World Cup prior to shock move to league by signing with the Gold Coast Titans, has been released from his NRL deal to join the Wallabies during their tour.

But, the 24-year-old is reportedly still battle a quadriceps injury sustained in training recently and has been omitted from the squad looking to achieve back-to-back victories over England at Twickenham for the first time in 16 years.

Australia Confront Selection Challenges

The Australian side is undermanned, hindered by the restriction to choose important foreign-based stars including their UK-based award winner Len Ikitau, Tom Hooper, and O'Connor, while the home team are at full strength.

This has sparked criticism that the Australian team's effort to move up the global rankings ahead of the upcoming pool draw for the hosted 2027 Rugby World Cup has been unfairly impacted, as the English are able to select each of their Premiership-based squad members.

Coach Schmidt Remains Optimistic

However, Australia coach Schmidt, fresh from leading a hard-fought victory over the Japanese team with a mostly backup squad, is still optimistic he has a winning team at his disposal, with several star players returning to action.

"The coaches have tried to manage this season's demanding fixture list in terms of Test matches and travel commitments, so it was beneficial to rest a number of players up in the previous match and we trust that enables the team to be really competitive on the weekend," stated the coach.

Notable Returns and Partnerships

Prop Tupou is back in the run-on team for the first time after the first Bledisloe Cup Test in Auckland, and captain Wilson wears the No 8 shirt again, forming a well-known powerful back row with Valetini and McReight.

Waratahs teammates Jake Gordon and Tane Edmed start in the halves for the third consecutive international, while Paisami will partner in midfield with Suaalii, returning to the scene of his impressive union debut the previous season.
