Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid period, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with former coach Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial championship following the Rome competition and initial on a hardcourt after March of 2023.

The win also signifies the Russian has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is particularly special," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had lost his past six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on court had prompted observers to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and perform assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Moutet, securing four of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players exchanged break points in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to push for a decider.

He saved four early-game chances in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
